A BRIEF HISTORY

The Marlborough Rugby Union was founded in 1888 and currently has eight affiliated clubs, (Central, Harlequins, Moutere, Pelorus, Renwick, Waitohi, Awatere and Kaikoura) the first six of whom make up the Premier Club Competition.

There have been many highlights throughout the proud history of the Marlborough Union, the most notable being the victory over the touring French team in 1968, the winning of the Ranfurly Shield in 1973 and the National Sevens Title in 1976 and 1977.

The Redwood Red Devils are currently in Division Two of the NPC and are one of only a few provincial teams that have played in all three divisions of the NPC since its inception in 1976. Mid Canterbury
